Importing and Exporting Data

Since SnagL™ is primarily a tool for visualizing data, having some data to work with is mandatory.  The application does nothing without data and it is the job of the host integrated with SnagL™ to provide this data.  With that in mind, SnagL™ was designed to support many different data formats by allowing formats to be provided as plug-ins to the application.  The currently supported formats are:

Data, in any of the supported formats, can be sent directly to SnagL™ from the host by using the Host Integration API (which will be covered in a different part of this documentation).

Importing from a File

Another way to import data is by importing it from a file.  The file in question can be any any format supported by SnagL™ or a custom plug-in.

Import and Export Buttons

The image above shows a portion of the menu bar with the Import and Export buttons highlighted.  Pressing the Import button will open a standard OpenFile dialog box, allowing the user to open a format in any of the supported formats.  Depending on the format selected, some features may not import as they do not directly transfer to SnagL™ supported features.

Exporting to a File

Just as data can be easily imported, it can also be easily exported.  Pressing the Export button will open a typical SaveAs dialog box, allowing the contents of the graph to be saved to a file in any of the supported formats.  Depending on the format selected, some features of the graph may not be preserved during the export.
